In Berlin – buggered.

We’re going to have to date our blogs for the next few days – we can’t get internet access (so far) in Berlin, but we’re still compiling a blog each day as a form of travel diary, however they might all be posted at once when we finally get connected.

So this is Sunday 16 September. Not much to report; we spent most of the past 36 hours travelling.  As forecast, we returned to the Mitchell Street open-air food stalls on Friday night, then we were collected from our hotel at 10.15am so that we could sit around Changi Airport for three and a half hours before flying out at 2pm.  We arrived in Frankfurt at 8.30pm local time and finally reached our hotel just before 10pm – that’s 4am Singapore time!  So it had been a long day.  We were on the Berlin inter-city express at 9.15am this morning for the four-hour trip to Berlin, and arrived at our apartment mid-afternoon.  It’s a lovely apartment in a quiet street not far from the main sights (and just two streets from the Spree River).  After unpacking we set off to buy some groceries and found that no supermarkets or other food stores open on Sundays in Berlin!  So we’re having take-away fish and chips and a Greek salad for dinner.  All wasn’t lost – we managed to get a bottle of chardonnay to wash it down.  We’ve already purchased out three-day Berlin passes, so after an early night tonight we’ll hit the town with a vengeance early in the morning.
